I am currently a PhD candidate within the School of Psychology at the Victoria University of Wellington , New Zealand. As a part of my thesis I am exploring the cultural evolutionary purposes of Hinduism that contribute to it thriving as a polytheistic religion.
In non-academic terms, I am studying why Hinduism is the only major religion in the world that has multiple Gods, whereas other similar religions (e.g. the Greco-roman or Egyptian pantheon) have lost popularity over time. India, where Hinduism is most commonly practiced, was similarly colonised as other nations that have let go of their multi-God model in favour of a form of either Christianity or Islam. Yet, Hinduism didn’t follow the same fate. I believe that this is because Hinduism’s polytheism supports the variation within Indian communities and their economic practices. I am thus studying, how Hindus make use of Hindu practices to better cooperate and economically sustain.
Areas of interest: Religion, Morality, Norms, Cultural Evolution, Cross-Cultural Research.
